Jason Scaggs
Candidate for the upcoming General Election on November 3, 2026. Always verify official ballot status with the Maryland State Board of Elections.
Jason Scaggs is an Owings resident, local entrepreneur, and lifelong Calvert County native running as a Republican for Calvert County Commissioner At-Large in 2026. Raised on a family farm in Lower Marlboro where his family put down roots in 1906, he attended Sunderland Elementary's inaugural class, graduated from Northern High School, worked cutting tobacco at Swann Farms, and earned his degree from the University of Maryland, College Park before building Scaggs Site Development, an excavation and infrastructure business. Running on the core principle 'Calvert County is worth fighting for,' Scaggs is an unapologetic conservative focused on smaller government, lower taxes, stopping high-density housing, a firm 'No' on data centers with a total ban on NDAs, privatizing and speeding up county permitting, and demanding local control and fair funding for Calvert schools.

A Firm 'No' on Data Centers and Banning NDAs
Stands firmly opposed to industrial data centers in Calvert County. Demands an outright ban on non-disclosure agreements and backroom negotiations, asserting that any decision on the county's technological future belongs directly on the ballot.
"After months of research, I’m a firm No on the data center. No NDAs, no deals cut in private, the future of our county belongs on the ballot, decided by the people who live here."
Stop High-Density Housing and Preserve Rural Calvert
Opposes high-density residential subdivisions and apartment complexes that overload county roads, classrooms, and water resources while erasing Calvert's historic rural identity.
"Calvert wasn’t built for people to live on top of each other. Big apartment complexes strain our roads, schools, and water and erase the rural character that makes this home. Growth should strengthen our communities, not overcrowd them."
Privatizing Reviews, Slashing Mandates & Restoring 'Fast Track Wednesday'
As an excavation and infrastructure contractor, pledges to overhaul the county permitting bureaucracy by privatizing site-plan reviews and inspections, removing engineered permit mandates for simple additions/decks/pools, and approving compliant permits online in hours rather than months or years.
"Homeowners and small businesses often wait years and spend hundreds of thousands just to get a yes. Privatize site-plan review, privatize inspections and stop requiring engineered permits for pools, decks, additions, garages... We will bring back Fast Track Wednesday and online permit approvals in hours not months or years."
Lower Taxes, Cutting Boondoggles & Upgrading Fire/Sports Infrastructure
Calls out excessive government spending such as the $30 million cost overrun on the new county administration building. Pledges to hold the line on taxes and redirect municipal savings into upgraded fire and rescue equipment and turf fields for all four Calvert high schools.
"Stop the boondoggles, like a county building $30 million over budget. Cut the waste, hold the line on taxes, and put the savings into upgraded fire equipment and turf fields for all four high schools."
Restoring Resident Accountability, Property Rights & School Funding Equity
Demands an end to closed-door government negotiations, county control over the health department, redevelopment with modern septic, selling surplus county land, and reasserting local authority and equitable state funding for CCPS schools.
"Government should never negotiate the future of our county behind closed doors... And with taxpayers funding $163M of our schools to the state’s $109M, we demand fair funding and local control."
Official Campaign Priorities
- Firm 'No' on Data Centers & Banning NDAs: Defeating industrial data centers and prohibiting non-disclosure agreements and private deals—decisions affecting the county's future belong on the ballot.
- Stopping High-Density Housing & Preserving Rural Character: Opposing large apartment complexes that strain roads, schools, and water supplies while eroding Calvert's rural heritage.
- Ending the Permitting Nightmare: Privatizing site-plan reviews and inspections, eliminating engineered permit mandates for simple projects (decks, pools, garages), and reviving 'Fast Track Wednesday' for same-day permit approvals.
- Lower Taxes & Smarter Budgets: Eliminating wasteful government spending (like the $30M over-budget county building), holding the line on taxes, and reallocating savings into upgraded fire equipment and turf fields for all four high schools.
- Local Control, Property Rights & Education Accountability: County control of the health department, redevelopment with modern septic, selling unused county land, and demanding fair state funding and local control for schools ($163M county share vs $109M state share).
