Following his passing on August 5, 2026, the St. Mary's County Republican Central Committee voted on August 12, 2026 to appoint primary runner-up Roy Alvey (2,119 votes, 33.5%) to fill the vacancy on the November 3, 2026 General Election ballot.
Former St. Mary's County Commissioner (District 1, 2014–2018), local business owner, and U.S. Coast Guard veteran who won the June 2026 Republican Primary for Commissioner President (2,823 votes, 44.7%). Tragically passed away on August 5, 2026, at age 57 following complications from liver disease. St. Mary's County flags were flown at half-staff in his memory.
